The short version: The Meterous extension collects no personal data. It has no servers, no analytics, no accounts and no tracking. Everything it reads stays on your computer. This website counts visits, without cookies: see This website.

What Meterous accesses

Meterous reads your usage limits from claude.ai: the same numbers shown on claude.ai's Settings → Usage page. To do that it makes two kinds of request to claude.ai, using the login already present in your browser:

• a request for the list of organizations on your account, to find the one whose limits apply to you; and
• a request for that organization's current usage.

Your browser attaches your login to those requests the same way it does when you visit claude.ai yourself. Meterous never reads, stores or forwards your password, login cookies or session tokens, and it never reads your conversations.

Meterous runs only on claude.ai. It has no access to other websites.

What Meterous stores

Meterous keeps a small amount of data in your browser's local extension storage on your computer: the percentage used and reset time for each meter, the time of the last refresh, the last error code (if any), and an internal identifier for the organization it reads usage from. Nothing is stored anywhere else. Removing the extension deletes it.

Where your data goes

Nowhere except claude.ai itself. Meterous sends no information to the developer or to any third party. It contains no analytics, crash reporting or advertising code.

The coffee link

The setup page that the Chrome, Edge and Firefox editions show after install links to buymeacoffee.com, as this website does. Up to version 1.0.4 their popup had the link too; from version 1.0.5 it doesn't. It is an ordinary link: Meterous sends nothing to that site, and nothing happens unless you click it. If you do, Buy Me a Coffee's own privacy policy applies. The Safari edition has no such link.

Diagnostics you choose to share

If you ask for help, you can copy a diagnostics summary from the popup and send it yourself. It contains the extension version, your browser and operating system versions, the meter percentages and reset times, timing information, error codes, how many claude.ai tabs Meterous asked for your usage, and (from version 1.0.5) a note on each of claude.ai's last five answers: its status code, its content type, and the names and types of the fields it contained, never their contents. It does not contain your name, email, account identifiers or anything from your conversations. Those notes are kept only in your browser's extension storage, and they leave your device only if you copy the summary and send it yourself.

This website

meterous.app counts its visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, so the developer can see how many people find Meterous. It uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. For each page view it records the page, the site you came from, your country, your browser, operating system and device type, and how quickly the page loaded. Cloudflare says it discards your IP address at its nearest data centre, doesn't track people across websites, and doesn't collect or use visitors' personal data; Cloudflare explains what it collects. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, whose own privacy statement covers its server logs. None of this involves the Meterous extension, which collects no personal data.

Third-party services

claude.ai is operated by Anthropic, PBC. Your use of claude.ai is governed by Anthropic's own terms and privacy policy. Meterous is not affiliated with Anthropic.

Children

Meterous is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
