Setting up Meterous, and answers to the usual questions.

Setting up

  1. Open Meterous once from your Applications folder.
  2. In Safari, choose Settings → Extensions and tick Meterous.
  3. Sign in to claude.ai in Safari, if you aren't already.
  4. Click the Meterous icon in the toolbar and allow it to use claude.ai.

Questions

What do the three meters show?

Current session is your 5-hour window. Fable is your weekly Fable allowance, if your plan has one. Weekly is your usage across all models for the week. Each shows the percentage used and when it resets; the toolbar badge shows your session, and the ring around the icon fills with your weekly usage.

Why does Safari ask to allow Meterous on claude.ai?

That permission is how Meterous reads your usage numbers: it makes the same request claude.ai's own Settings → Usage page makes, using the login already in Safari. It doesn't read or change anything else on the site.

Is my data safe?

Meterous has no servers, no analytics and no accounts. It never reads your conversations, and it never sees your password or login cookies. Your usage numbers are stored only on your Mac. Details in the privacy policy.

A meter says "Not reported for this account"

claude.ai didn't report that limit for your plan. For example, only plans with a separate Fable allowance show the Fable meter. The other meters keep working.

It says Safari isn't sharing my claude.ai login

Open claude.ai in a Safari tab and sign in if needed, then open Meterous again. Meterous refreshes from an open claude.ai tab when Safari won't share the login with the extension directly.

The numbers look out of date

Meterous refreshes every five minutes while Safari is running, right after a limit resets, and whenever you open it or click the refresh button next to "Updated". If claude.ai asks it to slow down, it waits ten minutes before trying again.

Something's wrong. How do I report it?

Hold ⌥ Option and click the refresh button in the popup to copy a diagnostics summary, then email it to support@meterous.app. The summary contains version numbers, percentages and error codes only; nothing that identifies you or your account.

No. Meterous is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anthropic. Claude is a trademark of Anthropic, PBC.
